The ILA Associates’ Network (the Network) was launched in 2010 in order to promote the benefits of associate membership of the ILA. The Network is open to junior barristers, solicitors and in-house counsel who are active in this fast-developing practice area and provides an ideal forum for associate members to build their contacts across the industry. It is the only forum of its kind dedicated exclusively to junior lawyers in the restructuring and insolvency profession. You can read more about our membership here.
The Associates’ Network committee arrange seminars that are open to all junior practitioners whether or not they are members of the ILA.
The most recent seminar ‘Introduction to and Update on: Retail Insolvencies’ was given by Hannah Thornley (South Square) and Kavan Gunaratna (Enterprise Chambers) in September 2019. In a wide ranging talk by both speakers Kavan spoke on CVAs and in particular what are referred to as ‘landlord CVAs’, and Hannah discussed her work both in advising clients involved in retail insolvencies and her work on the public inquiry that followed the collapse of BHS. Both Hannah and Kavan emphasised the importance of the retail sector to the UK economy as a whole and posited possible future developments.
The next seminar ‘Introduction to and Update on: Bank Resolution’ will take place in early 2020.
Information relating to future events and initiatives organised by the Network will be posted on this website.
