ILA Annual Dinner and Lecture 2011

05/12/11

The ILA's 22nd Anniversary Annual Dinner, held as usual under the dinosaur in the impressive Great Hall of the Natural History Museum in London was a memorbale evening. Over 400 members and guests from solicitors' firms, barristers' chambers and other leading UK and overseas organisations attended the prestigious black tie event.

ILA members enjoyed the informative pre-dinner lecture from HHJ Purle QC entitled  "When is an administrator not an administrator?"

Following dinner, Christopher Mallon gave his Presidential address looking at the achievements of the ILA over a 22 year period and its plans for the future. The Association has evolved into a vibrant and important contributor to members’ ability to keep up to date with developments in our field and Christopher thanked the Technical Committee for their unstinting efforts in this regard.

Largely as a result of the ILA’s increasing importance as a contributor to the insolvency and restructuring field, membership is increasing and as a consequence our reserves have also increased. Christopher invited the members to consider how the Association might use some of its reserves to assist  the most needy in our society by helping them secure access to adequate representation in the event they become involved  in bankruptcy, administration or insolvency proceedings. A number of proposals are  currently being  considered by the council and ideas and input from members would be most welcome.

Christopher asked the Association to join him in thanking the team from Clifford Chance, led by Philip Hertz and Tessa Bartley, for their superb organisation of another fantastic evening.
